St. Francis Francis de Sales Cathedral, Houma LA
Built in 1937, St. Francis de Sales Cathedral sustained hurricane damage in 1965 and an asphalt shingle roof was installed on the entire church at that time. When the roof needed replacement in 1984, a custom fabricated copper standing seam and shingle roof system was selected. The 120 ft. tall steeple was scaffolded for safe access, removal of the asphalt shingles, and the installation of the new copper shingle roof. In an effort to restore the beauty of the steeple, the 16 0z copper shingles were individually tapered to accommodate each pie shaped segment of the steeple. The result was a beautifully restored local landmark with the classic richness of copper.
